Earth Day Eve 2010: Creating a Healthy FutureWednesday, April 21, 7 to 10:00 pm

This special event features John Robbins and his son Ocean presenting a keynote address on "The Wisdom of Partnership." John is the bestselling author of Diet for a New America; Ocean is founder of Youth for Environmental Sanity (YES). Learn about Four Years. Go., an ambitious new network uniting over 400 organizations. And witness the official launch of the Sustainable World SourceBook and the Pay It Forward campaign. Reception from 7-8 pm, featuring appetizers and wine, live music by Shambhu, and networking. Cost: $15, which includes a copy of theSourceBook. Bay Localize will be tabling onsite.

Conference on Urban Sustainability: Ideas in Action

The theme of this year's Annual Peralta Community College District Conference on Urban Sustainability is Ideas in Action. This year's conference features Oakland Councilwoman Jean Quan, a webcam-talk with Kari Fulton, a young environmental action activist currently in Bolivia for the People’s World Conference on Climate Change, and André Angelantoni, a San Francisco-based educator who conducts workshops and lectures on adapting to a world without cheap, abundant oil. Laney's ever-expanding Green Trades programs will also be highlighted. And Bay Localize's Dave Room and Aaron Lehmer will be presenting at the conference.

This annual event celebrates the environmental movement and creatively challenges the destruction of our planet. Features cultural performers, speakers and resources to link individuals and groups with each other in community. Cultural performers include: Shawl-Anderson Dance Center presenting Earth Day Dance (12-1 pm), Reggae Angels (1:30-3 pm), and Venezuelan Music Project (3:30-5 pm). Activities include: demonstrations of biodiesel and electric cars, solar power, Berkeley Farmer's Market, climbing wall, Chalk4Peace, vegetarian food, crafts, and community booths. Cost: Free! Love Yo Mama Earth Day Event

Communities for a Better Environment, in partnership with ACORN Woodland Elementary and Tassafaronga Recreation Center, is hosting the second annual "Love Yo Mama" Earth Day event in East Oakland. The theme for 2010 is "Green is Good for the Hood." Guests include the Rev. Daniel Buford from Allen Temple Baptist Church, the Rev. Larry Ashley from Cosmopolitan Baptist Church, Encompass Academy, Danza Azteca Cuauhtonal, Los Bomberos and more. The event starts at 11 am Saturday with a rally to highlight environmental and health issues in Oakland at Tassafaronga Recreation Center, 975 85th Ave. From noon to 1 pm, there will be a parade with Scraper Bikers, drummers and youth dancing. From 1 to 6 pm, there will be a health fair, vendors, youth performances, speakers and more at ACORN Woodland Elementary, 1025 81st Ave., Oakland.
